Boy Scout
Troop 160 was chartered in 1956 at Centenary
United Methodist Church. The troop has continually
maintained that charter at Centenary United Methodist Church
and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006.
The troop is owned by a chartered organization, which
receives a national charter yearly to use the Scouting
program as a part of its youth work. Each chartered
organization provides a meeting place, selects a
Scoutmaster, appoints a troop committee, and chooses a
chartered organization representative.
Troop 160 meets in a freestanding structure (the Scout
Hut) on the church property. This structure is only used
for scouting activities. The troop also has full use of
other church facilities when needed. This includes the
sanctuary (which is used for Courts of Honor and Eagle
ceremonies), the fellowship hall (which is used for Courts
of Honor and family fellowship meals), and classrooms (which
are used for patrol meetings, merit badge classes and Boards
of Review).
We currently have scouts who attend the following schools:
Grimsley High School Western High School Kaiser Middle
School Lindley Elementery School Bishop McGuinness High
School Our Lady of Grace Catholic School Ragsdale High
School St Pius X Catholic School As of Spring of 2010 our
troop has 38 active Scouts.
Troop 160 has an adult leadership staff that plans monthly
camping or outings for the scouts to participate in. They
continue to encourage the scouts to have fun while learning
and advancing toward the rank of Eagle. We do community
work, fundraising and special projects throughout the year.
The leadership is passed down through the older scouts and
the younger scouts. There is self-reliance taught to all
scouts and practiced at all the meetings and activities.
From planning meals and cooking on campouts to organizing
Eagle projects, the scouts always participate in every
aspect of the learning experience. |

Cub Scout Pack
160 meets on Monday Nights from September to
May. Our meetings start at 6:30pm and end around 8:00pm.
Pack 160 is part of the Guilford District in the Old North
State Council. The Pack serves approximately 20 to 30 boys
weekly with a full range of age appropriate activities
through its five ranks. The five ranks in Cub Scouting are
Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I and Webelos II.
Boys are grouped together in dens by age or grade. All Cub
Scouts must earn their Bobcat award regardless of when they
begin. This creates a common link between all the boys in a
Pack.
In the Tiger Den Cub Scouts and their adult partners are
introduced to Scouting through games, activities and lessons
specifically designed for First graders. The Second graders
or 7 year olds, strive for the rank of Wolf as they add more
to their knowledge of family, home, school and community.
As a Bear, the requirements become a little more challenging
for the Third graders. The model for Scouting is to build
upon the things the boy has learned each year developing a
broad interest in many things. From sports to science, from
faith to civic duty each rank challenges the boy to be a
good citizen.
The highest level of Cub Scouting is reaching the Webelos
rank. Fourth and Fifth grade boys work toward earning the
Arrow of Light. The Arrow of Light, the highest award for a
Cub Scout, is the pinnacle of his years in the den and
Pack. More involved activities in greater depth prepare the
Cub Scout to become a Boy Scout. Upon completion of the
Webelos rank and earning the Arrow of Light your son can
bridge over into Troop 160 fully prepared to continue on his
journey to earn the highest rank in Scouting---the Eagle
award.
Pack 160 believes every boy deserves the opportunity to be a
Cub Scout and to have a well trained leader. Our leadership
staff works closely with the Boy Scouts of America and the
Old North State Council to maintain their knowledge and
skills. Annually the Pack earns training awards and assists
in District and Council activities. We encourage community
pride through service projects and are open to visitation
for all our activities. We invite your questions and ask
that you consider us when looking for a place to help your
son become a good citizen of the Greensboro community. We
also encourage your participation in our Pack by becoming
part of our leadership team. |
